Gangnam Style dolls, unpaid salaries and a $240,000 bank transfer
I've got a scoopy, gossipy weekend read for you that's been lighting up the group chats
Good morning!
Feels like there’s a bit on at the moment. In case you missed it in all the madness, I’ve got a gossipy read for you to enjoy this weekend.
My valued colleague Gina Rushton and I published an investigation at Crikey into Australia’s most prolific progessive media mogul Piers Grove. He’s been involved in the Betoota Advocate, the Daily Aus, and beloved ABC show The Roast.
A lot of people were excited when he recently launched a new media company and bought The Politics, helmed by gun columnist Rachel Withers, to become its flagship outlet. Mere months later, Withers is gone, other workers have been unpaid and insiders have called it “shambolic”.
You know who’s not surprised? Grove’s former colleagues. Come for the inside scoop, stay for the 👀-inducing details: ‘He just moves on’: Australia’s most prolific progressive media investor has left a trail of chaos behind him.
As always, I am so interested in hearing what you think — or anything you’ve been thinking about! — and promise to reply to anyone who emails in.
Lots of love, CW
